DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, "Chesapeake & Ohio, Railway Special" marked mvt, Grade 936, 17J, 18S, 3oz coin silver Dueber Railway OF original case, "W.L. Fredeking, Hinton, W. Va" marked white enamel DS dial, time-zone hour hands, SW-LS, nickel damascene, s#30962. A rare and desirable railroad marking with its correct dial marked for Will Fredeking who was an official watch inspector for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. An interesting aspect of this movement is its unusual serial number arrangement with the first two digits at one side of the case screw and the final three digits at the other; the reason for this unusual marking style is that this movement began its existence as serial number 962 prior to being renumbered by Hamilton with 30,000 added to its serial number for its November 27th, 1897 sale to distributor J.W. Forsinger of Chicago, Illinois and the renumbering of this particular serial number is noted in the Hamilton ledger records. From the well-known Hamilton collection of Robert Bennett of Olivehurst, California.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some typical scattered fine to micro-fine scratches; excellent dial with some minuscule nicks to right side perimeter of center section, small fracture at edge largely under bezel at 8; excellent hands; case shows light wear, few shallow mild dents to rear causing ripples of reflection; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $1600 - $2400
